Antonia LoFaso's Busy Mom's Cookbook GIVEAWAY

You should all remember Antonia LoFaso from the recent All-Stars season and her first Top Chef appearance during season 4. She's both a dynamite chef, and a devoted mom, and this week marks the release of her first book of recipes, The Busy Mom's Cookbook: 100 Recipes for Quick, Delicious, Home-Cooked Meals.

The book is chock-full of interesting recipes, and despite being for busy moms, there are surprisingly few shortcuts involved. Sure, she likes no-boil lasagna noodles and Better Than Boullion chicken base, but she also recommends making home-made ricotta cheese because it has a more superior flavor than the supermarket stuff.

Non-moms will like this book too. There's more than a few interesting recipes anyone would want to have up their sleeve, including simple recipes for flavor-packed meatballs and tomato sauce, and the best blueberry muffins.

We have one copy of The Busy Mom's Cookbook to give away to one lucky reader. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Winners will be notified by e-mail, so be sure we have your e-mail address.

The rules:
Submissions must include valid e-mail address.
Entrants must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the Continental US.
If you've won anything from All Top Chef in the past 60 days, please let someone else have a chance.

Deadline:
Saturday, August 11th at Midnight.

Top Chef: In, Out, at the Super Bowl. and Finale News

Lindsay Autry is still standing on Top Chef: Texas. But she and mentor Michelle Bernstein have left the Omphoy in Miami according to reports here and here.

TC: TX Final Fiver's Ed Lee and Paul Qui team up for a cooking class on "Asian Fusion Redined" in DC on March 31.

More on plans from Season 3's Brian Malarkey for world culinary domination - and a possible reality show - here.

Top Chef All-Stars Richard Blais and Antonia LoFaso will compete in a tail-gating challenge at the Super Bowl.

If you love behind-the-scenes insights as much as I do, check out this post from someone who attended the TC block party that aired last week.

Bravo confirmed those rumors we mentioned that the Season Finale filmed in Vancouver, BC. Renowned ski resort Whistler, BC is involved too. When will it air? We're guessing February 29, since another show is airing in Top Chef's traditional Wednesday time slot starting March 7. Somewhere in there, we're anticipating the Last Chance Kitchen winner will be reintroduced into the mix. And there's a reunion show. How will it play out? Watch what happens :)

TC News and Information 4.20.11

All-Star contestant Spike Mendelsohn will be back on the small screen in October, competing on the next "Next Iron Chef." And he'll be going up against TC Masters 2 winner Marcus Samuelsson and two-time TC Masters contestant Michael Chiarello. Odds, anyone? Grub Street has the full cast lineup.

Not to be outdone, All-Star Fan Favorite Carla Hall will be joining the "The Chew," a daytime talk show devoted to "food from EVERY angle," says the press release. Carla will be part of a "rotating cast" of hosts that includes former Iron Chef Mario Batali, current Iron Chef Michael Symon, "entertaining expert" Clinton Kelly (TLC's "What Not to Wear"), and "nutrition expert" Daphne Oz (who apparently is related to Dr. Oz, also of daytime talk show fame). Eater is all over this story, with the full press release, news of the ire it has inspired in fans of "All My Children" (the daytime soap that will go off the air in September to make room for "The Chew"), Mario Batali's response to the soap backlash, and best of all, a photoshopped image of The View, er, Chew's foodie cast.

Season 4 TC winner Stephanie Izard keeps racking up so many awards it's almost hard to keep track of them. She somehow managed to find time in her crazy schedule to write a blog post about the thrill of being named one of Food + Wine's 10 Best New Chefs of 2011, and it's a a sweet and funny read.

All-Star winner Richard Blais is everywhere these days too. Check out this piece from Yumsugar, where he says he's opening "several restaurants in the Southeast" and confirms he will be part of this year's Top Chef Tour.

The TC Tour got underway last week in St. Louis, and Bravo's website is continuing to add and change details as plans firm up. Click here for the latest and to see if they'll be stopping near you. Season 6's Hector Santiago (who talks about the Tour here) competed against Season 4's Nikki Cascone at the St. Louis stop, which current Masters contestant Celina Tio judged, according to her facebook page.

For an even more impressive Top Chef Midwestern meal (sadly for the rest of us, not part of the Tour), check out this post from blogger Big Shamu at The Karmic Kitchen, who was fortunate enough to taste a six-course meal prepared by Carla Hall and Antonio LoFaso in Kansas City, appropriately dubbed "Girl Power."

In light of the events of last week's Top Chef Masters, here's an interesting piece the LA Times that ran just before that episode aired. Of John Rivera Sedlar (who disappeared from Episode 2 with little fanfare - hence, the return of Hugh Acheson), the LAT says: "As will be seen in an upcoming episode, Sedlar was opening his new restaurant, Playa, at the start of the five-week Top Chef Masters shoot. 'I had everybody working double-time,' Sedlar said. When he saw how the restaurant's marketing campaign was unfolding without his guidance, 'my blood was starting to boil' but he couldn't leave the show to deal with it. That's when he considered fleeing to France." The article also says that Mary Sue Milliken, "clearly a bit more unflappable, decided to leave her restaurants in [business partner and former TCM contestant Susan] Feniger's hands and even moved into the Top Chef Masters contestants' hotel for much of the production, hence her description of it as the 'evil vacation.'" Future episode reveals? A sequesterville hotel? Hmm.

A tip of the hat to my co-blogger here, Minx, who has deduced that this season of Top Chef Masters will conclude June 15, when Rocco DiSpirito's "Dinner Party" prepares to take over the coveted Wednesday night timeslot on Bravo.

And finally, are you as charmed by Suvir Saran as I am? Love his dry wit. Here's a cute piece - and cuter photo - of him. He doesn't seem to be doing a lot of appearances, but if you're near Silicon Valley, you can catch him at the Dining Out for Life fundraiser April 28-29.

ATC Love to Chef Antonia LoFaso

Chef Antonia LoFaso came thisclose to being in the finale in both her seasons of Top Chef. This time around, it almost looked like she was going to make it, but Cousin Mike beat her by a nose.

Chef LoFaso was a strong competitor all season; even when she was on the bottom in early team challenges, her dishes were praised. She is a great chef and we're very disappointed to see her leave at this point in the game.

Chef Antonia, we at All Top Chef wish you much luck in your future endeavors.

This post is only for positive comments about Chef LoFaso and her dishes. If you have anything negative to say, please do so here.

Congratulations to Chef Antonia LoFaso!

Making risotto on Top Chef has always been a risky proposition, and Chef Antonia LoFaso played with fire in choosing it to represent her Italian heritage. She nailed it, however, making a dish that was perfect in both flavor and texture.

Not only is Antonia on her way to the Top Chef All-Stars finale in the Bahamas, she's also won herself a 2011 Toyota Highlander. Congrats to Chef Lofaso - we're excited to see what she can do in the finale.

Congratulations, Chef Antonia LoFaso!

It didn't look good for Antonia several weeks in a row when her team ended up on the bottom, although in a few cases, the judges said her dish was actually one of the favorites. This time, however, cooking by herself, she nailed the challenge. Her simple antipasto of mussels with white wine and fennel really wowed the judges and fulfilled the Italian challenge to a T. And who better to win such a challenge than an actual Italian?

TC News and Information 11.28.10 - Sunday Night Special

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend, and welcome to all our new Twitter followers. I'm grateful to have had a few days break, but guessing I'm not the only one in overdrive anticipating the Top Chef All-Stars premiere Wednesday night. So let's get to at least a few tidbits from the mailbox.

Season 5 Fan Fave and returning All-Star Fabio Viviani recently reopened Cafe Firenze after ownership squabbles, and he seems giddy with the prospect of redemption, baby, in this interview with WGN radio, where he's promised to offer weekly updates as the season unfolds. You can also find some choice quotes from Fabio, as well as returning All-Star Antonia Lofaso (S4), here. Antonia says, "The first time we were on the show, a lot of us didn't know how to express ourselves. . . . Now we've come into our own. . . . A certain level of respect needs to be paid to us." Hmmm, Antonia, who is now working as a private chef, came in second only to Richard Blais among the returning All-Stars according the Chicago Trib's Top Chef Power Index.

If you're a seriously hard-core Top Chef crack monkey, and have an hour available, you can find some interesting audio from Art of Living with Carla Hall in the first half-hour and Jamie Lauren in the second half-hour (both All-Stars originally competed on S5). Carla is moving on from her catering business, and Jamie has moved from Absinthe in SF to a new gig at Beechwood in LA, which is getting some pretty sweet reviews - here's what Feast had to say, and Grub Street offers up a slideshow of Jamie's dishes including "an edible 'I Told You So' created with Padma Lakshmi in mind." Hmm. Jamie also says in the Art of Living interview that she'd never return for another shot at TC.

What else is in store for the upcoming All-Star season? I would be remiss in my media-watching duties if I didn't forewarn you of the S8 "Top Sponsors" - Boursin, Buitoni, (Swanson) broth, and Toyota.

And Bravo's facebook page has this: "Rooting for your favorite All-Star this season? Get ready to show your love in a whole new way... Check back tomorrow for the exciting details."

More to come from us at AllTopChef tomorrow too, kids.

Meet the All Stars - Antonia Lofaso

Perhaps a bit of a sleeper in the first few episodes of her season, Antonia finally hit a winning streak before ultimately being eliminated in Puerto Rico for poorly-cooked pigeon peas! Pigeon peas!

Antonia helmed Foxtail, the upscale supper club in Los Angeles, as Executive Chef and, for six years prior, worked at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago under the mentorship of Executive Chef Lee Hefter. A single mother living in Los Angeles, Antonia comes from an Italian background where she cooked with her mother and worked in her father’s restaurant. She went on to refine her cooking skills at the French Culinary Institute and graduated with a command of technique that landed her positions with catering companies and fine dining restaurants. Currently a national spokesperson for such companies as Stouffer's and Sara Lee, Antonia is working on a cookbook with over 100 recipes geared towards busy mothers with tips and suggestions from her own experiences and the those of celebrity single moms.
