Reactions to Top Chef Just Desserts 2 Episode 7

This week, the pastrycheftestants had to create donuts for owner of New York's Doughnut Plant, Mark Israel. As a bonus, the winning chef got $10,000 - but no immunity. As a not-so-bonus, the chef who prepared the least-favorite donut had to go home.

This was such a monumental Quickfire that even Johnny deigned make an appearance.

After two hours of cooking, Carlos beats out Sally for the win with his citrus and passion fruit bombolini. On the bottom were Matthew, for his dry donut, Orlando, for his lack of cardamom, and Megan, for her overly-sticky glaze (it literally glued the donuts to the plates). Megan, who has been in the middle of the pack pretty much the whole season is asked to pack her whisks and get outta dodge.

Now with six pastrycheftestants left, there's another damned team challenge. The Blue team is Orlando, Carlos, and Sally. The Red Team is Matthew, Chris, and Katzie. They will duke it out in Battle Chocolate where each team is responsible for a show piece and three individual desserts.

Orlando and Chris, who have competed against each other in the past, are the designated showpiece creators for their teams. Both make tall sculptures, and that's about all I can say about it. I don't "get" dessert art like that. Anyhoo...the judges for this contest are the pastrycheftestants themselves who will be tasting their opponents' dishes. Orlando - who hates everyone and everything - particularly Katzie - lambasted pretty much everything the Red Team produced. When it was the Red Team's turn to judge, only Chris was somewhat harsh, Matthew tried to remain neutral, and Katzie was actually complimentary.

I think that shows a lot about character.

Turns out the real judges - Johnny, Gail, Dannielle, and Wylie Dufresne - kinda agreed with Orlando. Team Blue was given the win, and Katzie was shown the door. Too bad - I kinda liked her.

So what did you think about this week's episode? Please leave a comment!
