ATC Love to Chef Grayson Schmitz

This week's challenge was one of those contests where everybody cooked really good food. Choosing someone to pack knives and leave the competition came down to the details. This week, Grayson decided to mix tomatoes with winter squash, something that Tom says is a no-no. And apparently the other judges agreed with him.

Grayson, you did so well in this competition. Congrats on making it to the final five, and we wish you much success in your future. Oh - and we shouldn't forget Last Chance Kitchen!

This post is only for positive comments about Chef Schmitz. If you have anything negative to say, please do so here.

Tom and company not only forgot that two chefs in past seasons WON with butternut and tomato on the plate (including a Voltaggio), but Gail doesn't even read Food and Wine, apparently, because her own magazine has several dozen easy to find recipes for precisely that combination. I'd like to see him tell Lydia Bastianich that she's wrong and a failure -- she uses them together as well.

I wish she'd been able to fight back on that particular issue as well as she did with Tom's "more exciting meatball."

I'll just be crossing my fingers that Grayson beat Bev in LCK, partially because I adore Grayson (and wouldn't it be a blast to have a beer or three with her?), but mostly because I have had enough of the Bev Drama and want to pretend to enjoy the last few episodes.

Excellent point, Anonymous! Personally, I think butternut and tomato is a fine combination. Tom must have been extra cranky that week.

I blame the heat. They were ALL cranky -- I live in Texas, and this summer was a true nightmare BEFORE all the fires started. That could have made even sweet Carla grumpy.

But there's still little excuse for the almost pompous reaction, and none for the hypocrisy they displayed. I pictured a particularly snooty French chef, nose in the air (because to pull it off, you need the accent -- note to Tom), declaring that unless it's done his way, it's a complete failure.

I've had a lot of "Wait. REALLY?" moments from JT this season. A lot of that is the fault of the editing Elf monkeys behind the scenes, who I have repeatedly wanted to slap with Antonia's rancid hamachi from last season.

Ah, Grayson, we still love you.
